Chris Young Is Making Chart History with “Voices”!

GRAMMY®-Nominated Singer/Songwriter Closes in on 25-Year-Old Chart Record as Smash Single “Voices” Climbs into Country Airplay Top 5

Nashville, TN – GRAMMY®-nominated RCA Nashville singer/songwriter Chris Young vaults to #5 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart this week with his latest smash, “Voices,” and as Young continues his climb toward the chart summit, he is on the verge of accomplishing a musical feat unduplicated in nearly 25 years.

First released in the summer of 2008, “Voices” originally peaked on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart at #37 as the debut single from Young’s sophomore album, The Man I Want to Be. Today, following back-to-back #1 singles with “Gettin’ You Home” and “The Man I Want to Be,” Young is seeing “Voices” become that very rare kind of hit: a re-release of the same recording of the same song.

Such singles seldom enjoy much success or surpass their original chart peak, but Young’s record label, RCA, has high hopes for seeing “Voices” match the 1986 benchmark set by Randy Travis, whose “On the Other Hand” initially peaked at #67, later soaring to #1 when it was re-released following his Top 10 smash, “1982.”

If “Voices” – co-written by Young, Chris Tompkins, and Craig Wiseman – hits #1, it will not only become Young’s third consecutive chart-topper, but will make him the first artist to re-release a country single to go to #1 since Travis did so 25 years ago. It would also become only the second time in the modern era of the Billboard country chart that an artist re-released the same recording to chart-topping success.

Recently nominated for his first GRAMMY Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance for his smash, “Gettin’ You Home,” Young is preparing to hit the road for the second leg of Rascal Flatts’ Nothing Like Tour, kicking off January 14.
